About Aeternus
Woven by hand, rooted in heritage.
Aeternus brings together vintage and newly woven Amazigh carpets from Tinghir, an oasis town at the foot of the High Atlas in southern Morocco.
Every piece is made entirely by hand and is one of a kind. Each is entered in our register and comes with its own certificate of provenance, so its story stays with it, whoever it passes to.
Wool
Pure wool, and one piece in camel wool. Wherever the design allows, the fibre keeps its own colour: raw cream, deep brown, soft sand.
Colour
Indigo, madder root, pomegranate peel, saffron, henna, walnut husk and alfalfa. Natural colour softens with the years into a patina no new carpet can imitate.
Symbol
Diamonds guard the home, triangles shelter, zigzags are rivers and mountain paths. The motifs are woven from memory, never from a pattern.
Caring for your carpet
Light
Turn it end to end once or twice a year so the sun reaches it evenly.
Spills
Blot, never rub, with a clean white cloth and cold water. Let it dry flat.
Cleaning
Air it outdoors, vacuum gently without a beater bar, and hand-wash with a specialist every few years.
Underlay
A natural rubber and felt underlay keeps it still and protects the foundation.
